Cause I need this black Apple box to play the half-assed iOS games I would normally play on the toilet.
Anyone want my copy of Halo: MCC? I’m sure the inaugural Angry Birds Apple TV version will be much better.

My thoughts exactly. Seems like a last minute feature to add to the refresh.
Besides, is there pricing for a second remote yet?

Not gonna lie, I was heavily disappointed by today’s event. Everything was so predictable based on rumors that it kinda lost my interest...

Apple is just trolling us at this point ... trying to resist trading my 5C for a 6S. Damn you Steve Jobs!

I wasn’t aware this was a thing until an hour ago. Apple gave up on gaming in the early 90s.

I remember that thing. Wasn’t Halo: CE originally supposed to be on that before Microsoft bought Bungie?

It doesn’t have to be good. It’s an Apple and it will sell.

The old Apple TV was a great product because it was honest. Sure, the Roku kicked its ass hard, but it wasn’t gussied up like the rest of Apple’s stuff.
Yep, not anymore.

Yes, it was and it was going to be an RTS not an FPS. Back in the day with Myst and Marathon, Apple was a gaming company.

I agree completely with MLGCarGuy. It wasn't all that special and really I wasn't impressed. I would be interested in the Halo MCC though.

The Console Model;
-Buy one $300-500 box every 10(!!!) years
-Everything released on the platform works forever.
no exceptions
-
Software updates - even major ones - do not break compatibility
-Software is pricey but sales and time can mitigate that
The iOS Model;
-Buy one iOS device if you want, but many have both. $400 minimum
each.
-
Devices go obsolete every two years
-minor updates are fine, but major ones will straight up lock users out of new features and apps. People inside the garden are heavily poked and prodded to upgrade this way (and it works extremely well)
-Games must be designed around assey touchscreen controls
-Software is cheap, because it has to be. Users caught 2 year upgrade cycle do not have $60 to drop on a gaming app.
Looking at all this, I think the people who keep wishing for apple to crush all other gaming platforms aren’t really aware of what they are asking for...

Eh, I disagree. The games are pointless. The universal search, Siri features, overlays, and expansion possibilities through the App Store make Apple TV intriguing.

It’s more like this:
Console and PC - Serious gaming
iPhone - Gaming on the shitter

I swapped my 5S for a 6+, couldn’t be happier with it. I’ve been deliberately not paying attention to the 6S because it’ll just make me mad.

GF made exactly the same swap. The resolution on the Plus is amazing.

Would this stream my computer screen with no wires as well? I’m thinking I just need a $40 chromecast.

Apple TV is a god damn joke.
I can kick it’s ass with a $60 Raspberry Pi package deal.

The casual games are actually pretty important (read: highly lucrative segment), but it remains to be seen if they can make them a must-have in the living room environment. Like you, not something I care very much about, and I don’t think the Nvidia Shield or the Fire TV quite got there, thus I kind of doubt Apple can do it, either. It’s not so much about execution but the content. Most mobile games aren’t going to sway the hardcore gamers.
The usability features they added more or less bring the ATV up to par with the competition, since Apple neglected it for so long. I’m sure these will work great for what they are, but they’re still a supplement device and not a replacement in the way an Xbox One can be (if you’re patient and think an additional $100 is justified). As a cord cutter, I certainly appreciate the XB1’s OTA support and entertainment hub philosophy, but not everybody does.
For me, the XB1 is exactly what I want to control my entire home theater, and the console part is welcomed icing.
And to be fair to Apple, the whole “ATV as a console killer” bit was forced on them by the hype mill. They didn’t intend this to compete with PS4s and XB1s, but a lot of people were basically making shit up to support that absurd claim.
